Our lives revolve around our relationships.

Individual Therapy

The reason people seek individual therapy varies considerably - from simple support and guidance to help in defining specific blocks. Many people experience blocks to success in one or more areas and need deeper levels of work designed to get to the roots of emotions, relationship struggles, or other personal challenges. I see my work as a therapist as primarily doing two things:

  1. Guiding people through the deeper, more confusing life experiences that have shaped where they are today, and
  2. Helping people develop new tools, skills, and perspectives that set them up to really enjoy relationships and life.

Couples Therapy

It is common for me to work with both spouses in a blend of couples and individual therapy. We set specific goals and plan this together. I focus on patterns and cycles, developing a healthy process for working through issues that come up. Lots of practice is usually required as the patterns and cycles are typically well entrenched.

Group Therapy

The number one issue people face is isolation. Group therapy is the most effective therapy for this and typically is a bit cheaper month to month. The power of group is in the interactions among participants. My function is very clear, and I am not a passive therapist in group. I am very active at helping stimulate interactions that result in paradigm shifts, new skills, as well as increased support to make real life changes. The group guidelines help create a safe atmosphere in which to do the work. They are:

  1. Confidentiality.
  2. Crosstalk is encouraged, but giving advice is discouraged. Responding to something another group member says as it pertains to you is encouraged, but don’t make them your project or play their therapist, try to solve their problems or issues, or make comments to “help” them unless you are specifically asked for feedback.
  3. Be Honest, Open, and Willing. These are the hallmarks of recovery.*
  4. Respect others through words, tone, & body language.

Groups vary in focus and length from six weeks for the workshop follow-up groups to 15 weeks for specially focused groups. Each Fall we do a Tools Group starting the first week of September. The goal of the Tools Group is to go through the complete tools list of 48 tools and increase proficiency of some.

Recovery is recovering a life worth living.

Workshops

Workshops serve several powerful functions. 1) Education – they are a great way to get massive doses of information that can serve as a platform for personal change. 2) Increase our connection to people serious about changing the way they live. (Support is the number one predictor of making successful life changes.) 3) Learn tools and new ways to deal with and respond to the challenges we face in life.

There are two levels of workshops beginning in 2007. The basic level is a series of five workshops entitled Maps for the Maze workshop. Maps for the Maze Each workshop is 10 hours long and costs only $49.00 per person per workshop. (That is less than $5.00 an hour!) Alumni can return for only $10.00 per workshop that they have previously attended.

In 2007 we will develop and present six advanced level workshops that will be shorter and more focused. For example, we will hold an advanced workshop on triangles that will be 3 or 4 hours long and focus specifically on understanding what triangles are, how they form, what the difference between a healthy and destructive triangle is, and how to disengage from unhealthy ones. These will begin in Spring or Summer and continue through the Fall. These are still in development – keep checking the web pages for more details as the year develops.

Interactive Metronome

This tool is our latest addition and is a very powerful non-medication alternative to treating many serious issues. It is effective in addressing a variety of factors that are frequently behind personal and relational problems including:

  • Communication problems
    • Lack of discussion, slow halting speech that looks like resistance, unwillingness, or a lack of interest in solving problems
    • Brain freezes that stop communication
    • Difficulty finding the words to describe one’s thoughts, emotions, or opinions
  • Focus and concentration
  • Disorganization and chaos
  • Dealing with triggers and PTSD
  • ADHD, Autism, Tourette’s, and Learning Disabilities
  • Addiction Treatment – it is an effective tool to compliment addiction treatment as well
  • Sensory Integration

Tutoring is the typical intervention when a child is struggling in school. But there are almost always underlying factors that need attention. Structure of the Intellect (SOI) assessment is one tool we use to identify these factors. The SOI provides us a unique look at underlying brain functions that are the building blocks to memory, reading, math, and academic performance in general. We start with the SOI assessment and create a plan to build and strengthen neural activity and brain functioning. In addition, we utilize other testing material and a variety of intervention including Belgau balance equipment. SOI Webpage
